Young Creatives Collective · YCC

STEM kids get clubs and competitions. Young artists should too.

YCC connects students in literature, music, performance and visual art with people who make art for a living. Then it gives them somewhere to show the work: real briefs, real stages and real readers.

Why we started

Art never got its case competition.

Ask what's out there for a student who loves economics or science, and the list is long. Ask the same about a student who writes songs or poems, and it gets short fast.

If you're into economics or STEM

  • Case competitions and olympiads
  • Research programs and summer schools
  • Mentors who work in the field
  • Clear ways to show what you can do
  • A sense of where it could lead

If you're into music, writing or art

  • The school concert
  • An art class
  • A notebook nobody reads

YCC is here to fill in that second card: professionals who'll look at your work, briefs with real stakes, and places to perform, publish and exhibit.

Our philosophy

Three tracks. One collective.

Each art form has its own craft, its own professionals and its own ways into a career, so we give each one a track of its own. Every member has a home track. The best work happens where the tracks overlap.

Literature Music & Performing Visual YCC
Track one

Literature

For poets, fiction writers, essayists, translators, and anyone who'd like to write for a living one day.

You might make
Short stories, poems, zines, essays, translations, interviews
Where it can lead
Publishing, journalism, translation, copywriting, editing
Track two

Music & Performing Arts

For singers, producers, instrumentalists, actors, dancers, and anyone curious about the business behind the stage.

You might make
Original songs, recorded performances, scripts, filmed scenes, short films
Where it can lead
Performance, production, artist management, promotion, directing
Track three

Visual Arts

For painters, illustrators, photographers, designers and filmmakers.

You might make
Posters, illustration, photo essays, design work, exhibition concepts
Where it can lead
Design, illustration, photography, curating, art direction

Our competitions are open to every track at once. A poem, a song and a poster can all answer the same brief, and you can mix forms in a single entry.

Our first competition

The Local Fix Lab

Can a piece of art help fix a real problem in a real place?

Each cycle names one specific problem in one specific place. You answer with a short written proposal and a creative prototype in any art form. The winning proposal goes to a real local NGO or cultural organization, with your name on it.

Each cycle

Ideas on the board

Each track lead has put forward ideas for what YCC could run next, from a literary translation workshop to a music business case competition. They're ideas, not scheduled events. We'll announce the ones that become real.
