The Young Creatives Collective presents

What we do Three tracks, one first competition, and a board full of ideas.

YCC is built around three tracks: literature, music and performing arts, and visual arts. Our first event, the Local Fix Lab, is open to all three.

i · The three tracks

Every art form gets a home of its own.

A poet and a producer need different mentors, different feedback and different places to show their work. So each track runs with its own lead and its own network, and members pick the track that fits them.

Track one

Literature

Words on the page, and the people who make a living from them.

Who it's for

Poets, fiction writers, essayists, translators, journalists in the making, and anyone who'd like to write for a living.

Where it can lead

Publishing, journalism, literary translation, copywriting, editing, speechwriting.

In the Local Fix Lab

A short story, a set of poems, a zine, or the first pages of a community storytelling booklet.

Track two

Music & Performing Arts

Sound and stage, and the business that keeps them running.

Who it's for

Singers, producers, instrumentalists, actors, dancers, and students curious about managing, promoting or producing.

Where it can lead

Performance, music production, artist management, promotion, directing, venue programming.

In the Local Fix Lab

An original song, a recorded performance, a filmed scene, a short play script with a recorded reading, or a two-minute short film.

Track three

Visual Arts

Image, object and space.

Who it's for

Painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic designers and filmmakers.

Where it can lead

Design, illustration, photography, art direction, curating.

In the Local Fix Lab

A poster campaign of two or three designs, or a small exhibition concept with a floor plan and sample pieces.

Where the tracks meet

Tracks are a home base, not a fence. You can belong to more than one, and our competitions take entries from all three at once. Some of the strongest work will mix forms, like a song paired with a poster campaign.

iii · Ideas on the board

What we might build next.

These started as proposals from our track leads. We're sharing them so you can see where YCC is heading, and so you can tell us which ones you'd sign up for.

Idea

None of these are scheduled. Some will become real events and some won't. When one is confirmed, it gets its own page, like the Local Fix Lab.

Literature

Idea

Mother Tongue Desk

Students translate a story or poem from the language they speak at home into English, with a working literary translator as mentor, for a bilingual anthology.

Idea

Writers on Brief

A writing studio that takes real commissions, starting with wall labels and program notes for YCC's other tracks, then for local businesses and galleries.

Idea

The Long Residents Project

Students interview long-time residents of their city and turn the conversations into written profiles, collected in a book with an audio archive.

Music & Performing Arts

Idea

Youth Producer Licensing

Young producers license original tracks directly to cafes and shops that need affordable music they can play legally.

Idea

Industry Shadow Case

A case competition on the business of music and theater, where the prize is a few days shadowing a manager, promoter or producer.

Idea

Portfolio Forge

A small grant and a mentor to help a young artist finish one real piece: an EP, a short film or a body of visual work.

Across the tracks

Idea

The Campaign Sprint

Teams of a visual artist, a musician or performer, and a writer plan a real launch campaign for an independent artist or small brand.

Idea

Undercurrent

Students pick a money problem facing independent artists near them, interview the artists living with it, and make a short documentary or photo essay.
